Design Process

Using Hamlet's quote in the show "time is out of joint", the director, Jessica West, and I wanted to create an environment that was suggestive of many locales such as a forest, Elsinore castle, and a ship without having any scene changes. Two sculptors' work gave me inspiration. The two sculptors were Eduard Chilida and Dietrich Mohr. Their monolithic pieces had playful voids that one's imagination could transform the environment.
